Carrie Sawyer, MS
Carrie is the CEO and founder of Diversity by Design, a San Diego based firm that uses design thinking to take on complex diversity, equity, and inclusion challenges impacting organizations and communities. Her innovative approach identifies the right partners, coordinates resources, and mobilizes teams to achieve shared, system changing goals. Carrie also works as an Innovation Strategist for JONES Inclusive, a top diversity and inclusion firm that specializes in organizational transformation.
Carrie began her diversity career in high tech as a Diversity Program Manager at Intel, where she was responsible for building inclusive teams, with a special focus on supporting technical females and underrepresented minorities. She then joined Qualcomm as a Manager of Inclusion and Diversity, where she developed a diversity and inclusion roadmap, managed employee resources groups, and used design thinking to explore how inclusion impacted women and millennials at the company.
Prior to her career in diversity, Carrie worked for over 13 years in User Experience Design. Her research and human centered practices led to the design of user friendly technology in high tech, e-commerce, and banking. Carrie earned her master’s in Human Computer Interaction from the University of Michigan and her bachelor’s in New Media Arts and Science from Indiana University.
